Meet Jo

Jo has always been relatively active and has been a member at TRAIN Strength & Conditioning for a few years. However, she had always struggled with her weight and her relationship with food.

Jo has tried numerous diets and approaches in the past with various success, but never found a consistent approach that she enjoyed and could stick to long term.

There was also no education on what to do once the ‘diet’ was over: that search for weight maintenance and health.

Jo came to me and said she would rather have sustainable weight loss and learn the methods/habits she would need to be able to keep off the weight for good, so that’s what we did.

Jo’s Process with NSN

When Jo began with me because she was educated already with food choices we had her tracking her calories and macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fat).

This allowed her to know exactly how much she was eating, and find a balance between training hard and her goal for fat loss. It also showed her that eating healthy doesn’t mean eating boring and bland food all the time.

Instead it comes down to balancing your food choices, eating plenty of natural foods but also enjoying treats, junk food and even alcohol on occasion and making it work within your goals.

During this approach of counting calories we worked on Jo’s nutritional habits and relationship with food. Building the platform for Jo to maintain her weight loss after her journey.

During this weight loss phase Jo enjoyed nights out, holidays, weekends away, and all her favourite foods.

Due to her keeping her eye on the long game, and putting in consistent effort, Jo has been rewarded with remarkable results, and is still working hard on her goals.

“I started working with Jonny and Next Step Nutrition at the beginning of January 2017 after deciding to do something about my weight issues once and for all. 

I have always been active and relatively fit and genuinely enjoy going to the gym but my eating wasn’t an area I was able to control without some help. 

Jonny came up with a plan for me an provided me with a daily calorie and macro target. He broke things down in a way in which I was able to easily understand and advised me on where my priorities should lie in relation to my nutrition goals. 

Eighteen months down the line it was the very best decision I’ve ever made. I have now lost 28kg since working with him and have dropped 3 dress sizes but most importantly, I have the tools and knowledge needed to feel in control of my nutrition for the first time in my life. 

I have always been someone who has been impatient and wanted quick fixes but this has been a long slow process with plenty of ups and downs – but for every down I have learnt an important lesson which has helped me going forward.

I have learnt that no food is inherently “bad” as we are often lead to believe and by removing the guilt associated with certain foods, my relationship with food has improved a whole load. 

Obviously the weight loss is a big deal for me, but more importantly I am so much happier and more confident, generally and in my ability to control my own nutrition for the future.
